Frequently Asked Questions

  • All of the DJs who work for Exceptional Entertainment have a minimum of 10 years of professional DJ experience.

  • We only use state-of-the art professional equipment that minimizes wires and doesn’t look bulky.

  • We always retain one DJ per weekend as a backup in the event of an emergency.

  • Our DJs do take requests and may play some of them. Our DJs β€œfilter” requests, meaning they will not play a song that you specifically asked the DJ not to play or music from a genre you asked the DJ not to play. We will not play songs off of Youtube when asked. If someone makes a request that fits in well with what the DJ is playing at the time and with the music the client wants, then the DJ may play the request. We have an online planning system that will allow you to make request lists before the event.

  • Sure, but we would like to get the music file(s) in advance of the event. If doing this please consider the audience attending your event.

  • A 40% deposit is required at the time of booking and the remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the event date. Payments can be made through our online planning system by ACH payment, debit or credit card.

  • Clients may cancel up to 30 days prior to the event start date without being liable for the remaining balance.

  • We do not include gratuity in the final contract price. 10 – 20% is generally recommended if your DJ did a great job, but it is entirely up to you.

  • This is not required in our contract and is completely up to you. Typically, the catering director or event coordinator will set aside a meal or boxed dinner for the DJ if requested by the client.

  • We offer DJ services for wedding ceremonies and receptions, corporate events, private parties, and school functions. We offer lighting options (uplighting and dance floor lighting) and have photo booths available.

  • You can select songs that you would like to hear at your event (as well as songs you don’t want to hear) through our online planning system. You will receive login information for that system in an email with your contract. The number of songs you request is totally up to you! We recommend giving your DJ at least 10-15 songs of different genres and artists that you would like to hear. A few songs/artists that you don’t want to hear is always helpful as well. If you end up requesting a lot of songs, just keep in mind the time constraints of your event. During your initial consultation, your DJ will ask about your music preferences.

  • Our DJs arrive 2-3 hours prior to the contracted start time to set up and contact vendors for any last minute changes.

  • While we do not have a limit on how far we will travel for a client, travel fees are incurred for any travel more than an hour from our Oshkosh office.

TIPS FOR HIRING A DJ

RESPONSIVENESS

You should expect a response to a phone call or email within 24 hours. The only exception may be on weekends when most DJs are at events. You should also have a direct line of communication with your DJ, i.e. their phone number, email, etc.

CUSTOMIZATION

The DJ should tailor the music for your event to your tastes. Your DJ should also have the musical knowledge, song selection, and willingness to play any genre of music you want for your event.

TRANSPARENCY

Your DJ should be able to provide pictures of their set up and equipment if asked. The booking and payment processes and terms should be clearly stated and explained upfront.

PROFESSIONALISM

Your DJ should be courteous and polite to you, your guests and other vendors. They should also be able to work seamlessly with other vendors, i.e. planner, caterer, photography, etc. Your DJ should be professionally dressed and dressed appropriately for the event. The equipment area should be clean and well maintained. Your DJ should arrive early enough to have all the equipment set up outside the presence of guests.

FLEXIBILITY

Your DJ should be flexible in scheduling meetings and phone calls. Your DJ should also be adaptable to changes, even last-minute changes, in the timeline, schedule, etc.
